Explanation of Statistical References:

The "Total" is just that - it's the total sum of the data for that subset added together.

The "Average" is the Total divided by the number of study subjects for that subset.

The "Median" is the middle number of the data for the subset.

The "Range" is the least & greatest data for the subset.

So, for example, if we look at the Sire's Age subset of data:

There were 7 study subjects (# of joeys).

  • The sire's ages are (arranged by age, in years): {2.0, 2.0, 2.5, 2.5, 3.0, 3.0, 4.5}

  • Add all those numbers together for the "Total" of 19.5.

  • 19.5 is then divided by 7 for the "Average" of 2.79 yrs.

  • The "Median" is then the middle number:  {2.0, 2.0, 2.5, 2.5, 3.0, 3.0, 4.5}

  • The "Range" is then the first (least) and last (greatest) number of the subset, thus: 2.0, 4.5
